Andover Public Library is filled with 45 decorated baskets full of gifts. Each basket contains themed goodies donated by area civic organizations and businesses as well as individuals. The baskets range in content value up to $300, or even more. With careful bidding a person can secure a fantastic bargain and support the Friends at the same time. Bids are written on bidding sheets placed next to each basket. The highest bid at the end of the auction Saturday August 28th will win each basket.
The Friends Basket Auction will end Saturday August 28, the day of the Library Friends" Big Book and Bake sale. After Library closing at 2pm the highest bid will win. Shoppers are invited to come to Andover Public Library to see the panorama of baskets. Many of our visitors bid on baskets to give as Christmas gifts. Proceeds help the Library Friends purchase books and provide programs for all ages throughout the year.
Every basket has a tag on it listing details of the contents. Allow plenty of time to inspect them as it is a show in itself! Many baskets are very unique, such as a Pie Basket with baking supplies and the gift of a pie each month, baked by our fabulous cook and Library Board President Don Eyring. The pie basket last year was the object of furious last-minute bidding, and considered one of the most prized. Baskets for children include: Sponge Bob, Gal's Rainy Day Basket, Boy's Rainy Day Basket. There's a Dog Basket, Lady's Golf Basket, Game Night Basket, "An Evening with Friends," "Essentials for Her," "Snowman Basket" "For the Birds," and a spectacular basket assembled by the Pymatuning Garden Club containing many "homes" for birds, butterflies and bats. Pymatuning Garden Club basket is filled with homes for garden creatures. Its contents are: blue bird house, apple shaped bird house, gourd bird house, bat house, bird greeting cards, Birds of North America book, decorative butterfly house, suet feeder, bird feeder, 2 row markers, bird dish towel, 4 coasters, yellow pot, garden gloves, plant mister. Wildlife resoure booklets: Butterflies and Skippers of Ohio, Nest Box Plans, Field checklist of Ohio Birds, Attracting Birds and Wild Ohio Division of Ohio Wildlife. There are baskets to appeal to guys and gals, golfers and grandmas. We are so proud of the tremendous support we have received from area businesses, organizations, and individuals.
